Glycoprotain 2 (GP2) is a bacterial uptake receptor on M cells, a unique subset of intestinal epithelial cells specialized for efficient delivery of luminal particulate antigens to gut-associated lymphoid tissue such as Peyer’s patches (PPs) for induction of mucosal immune responses.  For efficient vaccine delivery to GALT, chimeric molecule was made in which GP2 monoclonal antibody was fused with straptoavidin.  This chimeric molecule was able to efficiently deliver biotinylated antigens to PPs for the induction of antigen-specific protective IgA.
